The First Kasaysayan Show

The Elements @ Centris In Quezon City, Philippines.

This blogger wanted to try something new today unlike ever before on this blog.

This year, in 2024, it is the 10th anniversary of the first modern day era wrestling shows in the Philippines.

Next month, the Manila Wrestling Federation will be having their first show, MWF Kasaysayan at the UP Film Institute Media Center at UP Dillman.  The show is scheduled for Sunday, April 14th.

If my information is correct, and hopefuly this is okay to post, the first Kasaysayan show happened about six years earlier, on Sunday, April 8, 2018.  The location was The Elements @ Centris (photo pictured above) in Quezon City, PH.  The location of the building is still there today.

There were six matches on the show that day.  Some familiar names this fan saw in the results were Fabio Makisig, Jomar, Rex Lawin, Robin Sane, Kyle Sison along with The Eurasian Dragon from Ring Of Rebirth and Ho Ho Lun with Dragon Gate.  There is a short video on You Tube with the highlights of the show.

According to Cagematch, here are the results from the show (please let me know if any info was left out.  Thanks.)....

Fabio Makisig d. Jomar Liwanag

Aldrin Richards and Hanzello Shilva d. Ashura and Kyle Sison.

Rex Lawin d. Frankie Thurteen by TKO.

Gigz Striker and RG d. The Holdapers.

Ninja Ryujin d. Morgan Vaughn.

The Eurasian Dragon and Mr. Lucha d. Robin Sane and Ho Ho Lun.

Fast forwarding to today, the last we checked, there are around 50 general admission tickets left for the upcoming Kasaysayan show.  Please check the Manila Wrestling Federation - MWF page on Facebook for any updates.  For tickets, please visit the ticket2me.net website.  Thank you.

JDL vs. Rex Lawin Match

This blogger hasn't done a Manila Wrestling Federation post in awhile.  The reason is that their next show isn't until April.  However, I've seen some things recently that may be of interest to everyone.

As the kapafeds and/or the Pinoy wrestling fans know by now, Jake De Leon won the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Title at the 2023 Noche Buena show in December.  It happened in an eight man elimination match, the final match of the night.

Earlier in the evening, Danger Rex Lawin defeated Ho Ho Lun in a #1 Contender's Match for a future shot at the coveted title.

This fan is not a matchmaker here, and will never be!  The assumption of most fans is that JDL vs. Rex Lawin will happen at the next show in April.  That would be Kasaysayan at the UP Film Institute.  For all of you reading this, that is up to MWF management.  It could happen at the following show, Republika in May.

Definitely, I can see this being a good match.  Both competitors are working hard in getting ready for 2024.  Both wrestlers did finish 2023 with victories which gives both of them momentum.  Also, the two are ring veterans meaning that one could possibly defeat the other on a given night.

Also, this fan believes former champion, Fabio Makisig, at one point, deserves a rematch.  Fabio, because of the rules of the match, lost the title.  However, he was not pinned or submitted to the eventual champion in the match itself.

As well, there is a very good possibility that Jake De Leon may face Main Maxx.  As of this post, we don't know if Main Maxx is still a part of Oro Plata Mata.  It is an assumption that he is no longer with them.  We will know in the upcoming weeks whether that is true.

Speaking of this, looking ahead, this fan is interested seeing the paths of three wrestlers going forward.  During the Noche Buena show, there were some interesting moments at the end of matches involving C.J. Serafin, Danny Zamora and Main Maxx.  All three were a part of three stables within MWF.

Though I won't be there, this fan is excited that Main Maxx is teaming up with Romeo once again.  The Dexcon show in March will tell all of us if the two will team up perhaps in MWF shows sometime during the year.

Recently, I watched a livestream of Libreng Lucha.  Both C.J. Serafin and Danny Zamora were part of a tag team in a two on one handicap.  The event was held at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.

Though C.J and Danny won the match, it appeared that they were not exactly on the same page.  There appeared to be tension between the two, at times, but they got the victory.

Definitely, this fan, and hopefully those watching MWF shows will be excited about the upcoming year.  Definitely, there will be some surprises.

MKW Bash At The Bay 3 Update

This morning, this fan was checking up on any updates with Middle Kingdom
Wrestling and their upcoming show.  The event is called MKW Bash At The Bay 3.  The event will take place on Saturday, January 27th in Shenzen, China.

There was a mention about Ho Ho Lun, the Godfather of Hong Kong professional wrestling and possibly being on the card.

I had an opportunity in America of seeing him on television back in 2016 when he wrestled for WWE NXT.  It was definitely great seeing a wrestler from Asia in the WWE.

After a couple of years, he returned to Asia to continue his career.  He wrestled for a couple of promotions such as the Manila Wrestling Federation when he was the second MWF Pinoy Wrestling Champion.  Eventually, he went over to Dragon Gate Japan Pro Wrestling.

I had an opportunity to see him live last month at MWF's final show of 2023.  He wrestled "Danger" Rex Lawin in a #1 Contender's Match for the MWF title.  Though Ho Ho Lun lost, the match was electric for those who were at the PMC Spotlight Center in Circuit Makati.

Ho Ho Lun, like Tajiri, is a knowledgeable wrestler throughout Southeast Asia pro wrestling.  Neither wrestler needs to have a title.  Showing up to wrestle at any promotion throughout the region will bring fans to the event.

Right now, Ho Ho Lun is on a wrestling tour throughout the United Kingdom.  He says that he has a goal to one day appear at MKW's biggest show of the year.  Don't be surprised if he does appear at the MKW show at the end of the month!

"Danger" Rex Lawin vs. Ho Ho Lun

There are a number of matches this fan will be interested in coming up at MWF's 2023 Noche Buena.  One of them will definitely be "Danger" Rex Lawin versus Ho Ho Lun.  It is the number one contender's match for the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship.

First, we'll talk about Ho Ho Lun.  Per Cagematch, he began his career in 2009.  His promotion currently is Dragon Gate.  This fan remembers him from back in the year 2016 when he was with WWE NXT for a short time.  Then, he would move on to Asia where he has been successful.

It wasn't until I started following the Manila Wrestling Federation when he had a couple of matches against the first MWF Pinoy Wrestling Champion, Robin Sane.  He would win the title at MWF Republika in 2019.

Ho Ho Lun was able to defend the MWF title twice successfully against Khayl Sison and Tajiri later in the year.  However, because of the worldwide pandemic, he would forfeit the title in 2022.  Up until now, Ho Ho Lun never lost the title by pinfall or submission.  Also, it will be about three years since he was last in the Philippines wrestling.

Lun, though away from the Philippines, has wrestled in numerous Southeast Asia countries over the last several years.  Recently, he has wrestled in shows in Hong Kong and will be wrestling in Singapore later in the month.  So, he hasn't been inactive in any way.

Regarding Rex Lawin, he has a quite a career.  I believe from memory that he started in 2017 back before the MWF title was established.

In a tournament to establish the first MWF Championship, Lawin lost to the eventual first champion, Robin Sane in the semi final round in October 2018.

The two (Robin Sane and Rex Lawin) would meet twice more after Sane won the title in December 2018.  It's not that the chances have not been there.

I've always thought, from the matches on video, that Rex has what it takes to be a champion.  Sometimes, one big win can put you over the hump.

His career took a little break in September 2022.  He lost a "Loser Leaves Phillipines Wrestling" match to Dabid Ravena at the Road To Fate show.

However, Rex has looked good since his return to action at the 2023 Road To Fate show last August.  He looks a little quicker and more aggressive than before.

Ho Ho Lun is one big obstacle in the way for Rex.  However, one big win away has also been an obstacle.  This fan is not predicting a Rex Lawin win.  However, the kapafeds who will be in attendance at the PMC Spotlight Theater on Sunday, December 3rd will be in his corner.  Definitely, this will be a great match!

MWF: Noche Buena Update #3

Two more matches have been added to the MWF
: Noche Buena show scheduled for Sunday, December 3rd.  The venue is at the PMC Spotlight Theater, Circuit Makati beginning at 4:30pm.  Doors open at 4pm.

There will be a #1 Contender's match for the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship.  "Danger" Rex Lawin will take on Hong Kong's Ho Ho Lun.

This is Rex Lawin's biggest opportunity in coveting the MWF title.  One would probably have to go back as far as October 2018.  The new MWF title would have its first champion in December.  Rex reached as far as the semi final round of a tournament to decide a new champion.  In December, he will be in a similar position.

For Ho Ho Lun, he was the second MWF Champion. The Hong Kong Pro Wrestling star won the title at MWF Republika in 2019 and actually never lost the belt due to a pin or submission.  Because of the pandemic, the MWF title was vacated when the pandemic eased.  Ho Ho Lun is now getting his opportunity in getting the title back.

Also, in another match, Brother Jomar Liwanag will take on Aaron Liwanag.  The winner of the match will be the leader of Bahay Ng Liwanag.

There will be a clarification if both matches are done by Manila Rules.  Also, there will be some updates on additional matches.

Tickets are going well for the show.  Please continue to check the Manila Wrestling Federation - MWF page regarding tickets and any updated news.  Thanks everyone!

Manila Wrestling Federation Update

While waiting on the upcoming MWF show, Noche Buena, there is plenty of things to watch.

Rock Of Manila TV and Gank (streaming) are still showing episodes of the Tuloy And Laban series that took place in September.  Please check on where and when the episodes take place.  I believe in the Metro Manila area, Rock Of Manila TV is on Channel 6!  The channel can now be seen in most of the country.  To the Pinoy wrestling fans seeing this, please let your friends know this bit of information!

Also, soon, there will be episodes of this past Sunday's Todos Los Wrestling show that took place at Mandala Park in Mandaluyong.

Finally, I didn't mention this in the last post.  Since it is now out, I'll share it.  Hong Kong Pro Wrestling Federation wrestlers, Ho Ho Lun, Bitman and Michael Su will all be appearing at the Noche Buena show in December.  Ho Ho Lun is a former MWF Wrestling Champion who has wrestled all over Southeast Asia and was with WWE.  It should be a very interesting afternoon and evening at the PMC Spotlight Theater.

Tickets are going quickly as I mentioned in the last post.  Please check the Manila Wrestling Federation page on Facebook for more information.

Ace Of Philippine Wrestling vs. Mr Philippine Wrestling

There's a healthy wrestling rivalry going on right now in the Philippines and in the Manila Wrestling Federation.

Mr. Philippine Wrestling, Jake De Leon, a veteran of the squared circle.  His opponent in Sunday's MWF: Todos Los Wrestling encounter was the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Champion, Fabio Makisig.

I've been grateful to talk with both wrestlers over nearly the past year.  Both have been generous and grateful with their time.  In each, they have shared things about the history in Pinoy Wrestling, training methods, some of their background, etc.  Speaking of training, both wrestlers have greatly stepped up their games since the 2022 Noche Buena show.  You can see it in both.

Pro Wrestling needs rivalries like this.  When I see this, it would be like Giants-Dodgers in baseball or 49ers-Cowboys in football.  Both men have had the title belt on one occasion.  Along with Robin Sane, the first title holder, and Ho Ho Lun from Hong Kong, the second, the title belt has been in good hands.

Right now, it will be interesting what happens with both wrestlers after their recent encounter.  This fan does know this.  From talking with Fabio, Jake, the Pinoy Wrestling community, as well as people from the other two promotions in the Philippines, the following message continues to come up.

Pro wrestling is in a good place right now in the Philippines.  It will continue to improve and get better.  This is happening in several Southeast Asia countries.  Definitely, it is on the rise in this country!

Hong Kong Pro Wrestling Federation

Hong Kong Pro Wrestling Federation was founded in 2009 by Ho Ho Lun, a former WWE wrestler.  It went through a name change in 2012 as Pro Wrestling Zero 1 Hong Kong.  Then, in 2015, the name shifted back to the original name.

According to Cagematch, the first show took place on January 8, 2011 wih an event known as HKWF Battle Winter 2011.  The venue was the Hangout Arena in Sai Wan Ho, Hong Kong.  The latest show took place on September 23, 2023 with the event, HKWF Valley Rumble.  The event took place at the Hong Kong Football Club.

The promotion has one active championship (according to Cagematch).  It is called the AWGC Junior Heavyweight Championship although I believe there is more than one title.

For more on this, please visit the HKWF page that will appear on a link at the top and right side of the page.
