Unang Tibok Update

Hello everyone!

There has been a change for the Jun Capilos Jr. Battle Royal this coming Saturday.  Due to an injury, Fabio Makisig will not be able to compete in the match at the Unang Tibok show.  Taking his spot in the event will be WUW Philippines' own Robin Sane!  Hopefully the injury is not serious and will see Fabio back in action soon!

There are still a few tickets remaining for the show which is at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.  The show is this Saturday at 6pm.  For more information, please visit the PUSO Wrestling Facebook page.  Thank you and hope to see all of you this Saturday.

A Look Back

Hello everyone!

This post either was deleted or the blogger never posted it.  In either case, my apologies that this happened.

In the middle with Ken Cifer (l) and Steve The Teacher (now AFAM Steve).  The Meet And Greet was a blast!

Last year, on Monday, August 21, there was a wrestling show sponsored by Dexcon and WUW-Philippines.  The show featured wrestlers from World Underground Philippines, Manila Wrestling Federation, Singapore Pro Wrestling, APAC Wrestling (Malaysia) and a wrestler who formerly wrestled for Middle Kingdom Wrestling in China.

The day featured a Meet and Greet as well as a wrestling show at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.  There were five matches on the show.  Here are the results from memory....

Robin Sane d, Zera.

Ken Cifer d. Steve The Teacher.

Dabid Ravena d. Razael in a Hardcore Match.

Alexis Lee d. Poppy, Crystal and Chelsea Marie in, what turned out to be a four way for the SPW Queen Of Asia Championship.

Crystal, St. John Martin, The Machine and Ken Cifer d. Poppy, Jake De Leon, Dabid Ravena and Kojio Akumu.

Note: Alexis Lee was the special guest referee and did a superb job at it!

This fan had a blast at the show.  It was the first time visiting the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City.  Though a small venue, it was perfect for the show.   The adjoining restaurant, Onyang's Place serves good food and drinks.  This fan remembers the great quesadillas and what, I believe, was San Miguel Beer that was brought into the venue!

It is nearly a year since this has happened.  How time flies!

Tagay Na! Results

Hello everyone!

Here are the results below from Sunday night's World Underground Wrestling - Philippines show, Tagay Na!  The event took place before an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and great gathering of Pinoy wrestling fans at the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City.

Also, I have some thoughts below the results.  Please, if you have a chance, to read it!

Fabio Makisig d. Isaiah Valencia.

Nigel San Jose d. Dabid Ravena and Zera.

Main Maxx d. Silent D.

Jake De Leon d. El Kapitunero.

Robin Sane d. Pinoy Bulldog

and

TZK (St. John Martin and Ken Cifer) d. High Proof (Razael and Kenta Terror) and retain the WUW Tag Team Championship.

Note:  Silent D has become a part of TZK and can defend the tag team titles via the Freebird rule!

In closing, thank you to World Underground Wrestling - Philippines in putting on a show that the fans will not forget any time soon.

To St. John Martin and the roster of both WUW - Philippines, and the new PUSO Wrestling roster, thank you for all the efforts, and keeping wrestling alive, and well, in the Philippines!  Also, to the staff, from the announcers, to photographers and those helping put the ring up, thank you too.  From this blogger, without all of you, there's no show, simple as that!

To the fans who were in attendance, and those who weren't there because of other obligations, thank you for supporting WUW - Philippines and PUSO.  Everyone's support is important right now. This blogger believes that WUW - Philippines and PUSO recognizes this and will continue to provide a good product for you.

Also, thank you to Rosh (results), Glenn-Dale (the clip from the show below), Christian, Jelson, Cholo, Andi, Ulysses, Emile, Michael, Martin, Patricia, Isaiah, Jeff, Alexander, and many others that I cannot remember (my apologies), thank you for the communication over the past couple of years.  Being about 7,000 miles away in America, without the input from all of you, posts like this wouldn't be possible.

There are good possibilities that Dexcon and WUW - Philippines will put on. at least, another show before year's end.  Also, PUSO Wrestling has mentioned that there will be an August show.  Details are forthcoming.  This blogger will have it on this blog as soon as the announcement is made!

Finally, pro wrestling will continue next Sunday, July 14th.  Filipino Pro Wrestling will have a show at the Baked Studios in Makati City.  Bell time is 2pm.  For more info, please visit the FPW - Filipino Pro Wrestling page on Facebook.

The copy feature regarding the clip will take some time to download here.  My apologies, but as soon as I can get it, the video will be posted below.  Thank you for your patience!

In the meantime, here is the link from last week's press conference that led to, what I've been told, was carnage at the end of the WUW Tag Team Championship match.

Tagay Na! Show Update #7

Hello everyone!

Here is the updated lineup of matches for the Tagay Na! wrestling show scheduled for this coming Sunday, July 7th.  The location is the Brawl Pit Bulusan beginning at 6pm.

Main Maxx vs. Silent D in an "I Quit Match"

Dabid Ravena vs. Zera vs. Nigel San Jose in a Triple Threat Match.

Fabio Makisig vs. Isaiah Valencia in a Singles Match.

Robin Sane vs. Pinoy Bulldog in what is called "New School vs. Old School" or perhaps the other way around.  This blogger respects Old and New School Wrestling.

"Mr. Philippine Wrestling" Jake De Leon vs. El Kapitunero in a Submission Match.

And Finally

Turn Zero Kill (Saint John Martin and Ken Cifer) vs. High Proof (Kanto Terror and Razael).  The match is for the World Underground Wrestling World Tag Team Championship held by Turn Zero Kill.  The match has been determined as a Tornado Tag Team No Disqualification match.  What this means, if it is correct is that all four  wrestlers can be in the ring as the same time.

If anyone saw the press conference involving the two teams, things got rather chaotic.  The one thing this blogger has learned from Pinoy Wrestling matches is the following....  Never wake up a sleeping giant!  I will leave that statement at that!

As of this post, there are some VIP tickets left.  WUW, Dexcon and I would love to see a sellout at the event.  For more on the show and tickets, please see the World Underground Wrestling Philippines - WUW Philippines page on Facebook as well as Dexcon.  I have posted the link on tickets that is below the final paragraph.  Please remember that the show IS subject to change!

Hope everyone enjoys the show this Sunday night.  If anyone has a chance, please FM message me (SF Wayne) after the show.  Would love to hear from you guys regarding the action  Thanks.  Will see all of you in PH in a little over three weeks!  Have a good weekend everyone!

The First Kasaysayan Show

The Elements @ Centris In Quezon City, Philippines.

This blogger wanted to try something new today unlike ever before on this blog.

This year, in 2024, it is the 10th anniversary of the first modern day era wrestling shows in the Philippines.

Next month, the Manila Wrestling Federation will be having their first show, MWF Kasaysayan at the UP Film Institute Media Center at UP Dillman.  The show is scheduled for Sunday, April 14th.

If my information is correct, and hopefuly this is okay to post, the first Kasaysayan show happened about six years earlier, on Sunday, April 8, 2018.  The location was The Elements @ Centris (photo pictured above) in Quezon City, PH.  The location of the building is still there today.

There were six matches on the show that day.  Some familiar names this fan saw in the results were Fabio Makisig, Jomar, Rex Lawin, Robin Sane, Kyle Sison along with The Eurasian Dragon from Ring Of Rebirth and Ho Ho Lun with Dragon Gate.  There is a short video on You Tube with the highlights of the show.

According to Cagematch, here are the results from the show (please let me know if any info was left out.  Thanks.)....

Fabio Makisig d. Jomar Liwanag

Aldrin Richards and Hanzello Shilva d. Ashura and Kyle Sison.

Rex Lawin d. Frankie Thurteen by TKO.

Gigz Striker and RG d. The Holdapers.

Ninja Ryujin d. Morgan Vaughn.

The Eurasian Dragon and Mr. Lucha d. Robin Sane and Ho Ho Lun.

Fast forwarding to today, the last we checked, there are around 50 general admission tickets left for the upcoming Kasaysayan show.  Please check the Manila Wrestling Federation - MWF page on Facebook for any updates.  For tickets, please visit the ticket2me.net website.  Thank you.

Dexcon - Wrestle Storm announcement

My favorite wrestling matchmaker, Linus Santos, made a major announcement regarding the Wrestle Storm show next month.  The event will take place on the weekend of March 23-24th.  More on the event later in the post.  I'm working on getting the video on the blog.  In the meantime, please check either the Dexcon or Pro Wrestling Asia pages.  It is worth watching.

Linus announced that the Kappa World Order (Kappa Kozo and Kappa Junior) will be at the Sunday show.  The venue is the Brawl Pit Bulusan beginning at 6pm.

Kappa World Order, if you are new to pro wrestling in the region, wrestles with the promotion, SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling.  Let's just say that the two wrestlers are definitely worth going to watch.  Certainly, wrestling fans in Thailand have watched KWO for several years and have not been disappointed.  Also, if you plan on being at the show, besides having your ticket(s), please bring a cucumber or two.

There are other matches to be announced including Robin Sane's dream match opponent for the show.  Here is the schedule of events that weekend.

Meet And Greet - Saturday, March 23rd at Unbox Greenhills beginning at 12 noon!

Wrestling Show - Sunday, March 24th at Brawl Pit Bulusan beginning at 6pm.

For more on tickets and information, please see the Dexcon page on Facebook.  Thank you.

Wrestle Storm Update

Robin Sane, one of this blogger's favorite wrestlers, will be wrestling in an international  "dream match" at the Wrestle Storm event on Sunday, March 24th, 6pm at the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City.

I do not know who the opponent will be.  However, Linus, the matchmaker will have an announcement this coming weekend on who the wrestler might be plus any possible additional matches on the card.

Robin Sane has been one of my favorite wrestlers since I started following Pinoy wrestling several years ago.  He's an experienced wrestler with high flying maneuvers and a lot more.

For more information and tickets, please visit the Dexcon page on Facebook.  Besides the Sunday show, there is also a meet and greet on Saturday, March 23rd, 12:00 noon at Unbox Greenhills.  Thank you.

Tara Let's Go!

Robin Sane in December 2022 prior to a match with CJ Serafin at the 2022 Noche Buena show.

Whenever this wrestling fan sees the title of this post, it reminds me of two things........the Manila Wrestling Federation and one of the founders of the promotion in Robin Sane.

When I first watched You Tube videos of the Manila Wrestling Federation back during the pandemic time, Robin was the first wrestler that I enjoyed watching.

The first time watching him was amazing.  He reminds me a lot of WWE's Rey Mysterio, one of the great daredeviling and high fliers.  Robin is not the tallest or biggest guy in MWF but he has a lot of heart and puts his body on the line in every match.

According to Cagematch, Robin was involved in the first MWF match known as Historycon 2016 when MWF and Singapore Pro Wrestling combined for a series of matches in Pasay City's World Trade Center.  According to the website, he faced one of his rivals, Fabio Makisig in a singles match and The Statement, Andruew Tang from SPW.

Up until 2018, there would be more rivals that he would face in Mr. Lucha, "Danger" Rex Lawin and Hong Kong's Ho Ho Lun.  Each guy was no small feat but more often than not, Robin would come up on the winning end.

In 2018, MWF would have three different shows to determine the two contenders who would wrestle for the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship.

At the 2018 Noche Buena show at the UP Bahay ng Alumni in Quezon City, Robin Sane defeated Fabio Makisig in one of the greatest, if not the greatest MWF match to date!

Over the next seven months, Robin successfully defended the title against the likes of "Danger" Rex Lawin, Frankie Thurteen, Morgan Vaughn and Moises Liwanag.

Then, there would be a controversy in the next defense of the title.  According to sources, Khayl Sison was supposed to be the number one contender for the title going into MWF Republika.  Instead, it was Ho Ho Lun according to then MWF Commissioner, Gus Queens.  Ho Ho Lun would win a controversial decision and would capture the title.  He would defend the title successfully on two occasions but the Covid-19 pandemic set in.

In 2022, Ho Ho Lun would relinquish the title.  Back to Robin Sane, it has been an uphill battle just to get a title shot.  He would get one in a TV show at Brawl Pit Bulusan against then, MWF Champion, Jake De Leon.

Then at the 2023 Road To Fate show, he received another opportunity against his rival, Fabio Makisig.  This happened because Robin Sane would win the 10-man scamble at the Lights, Kamera, Akyson show in June at the QC Memorial Circle.

This fan first met Robin at the 2022 Noche Buena show afterwards.  His match against CJ Serafin was one of the most hard fought matches I've seen in a long time.  I mentioned at the time that he is still capable in winning the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship.

Watching him one year later (last month), Robin looks better, more confident, quicker and stronger than I saw in 2022.

With Jake De Leon as the current champion, he now has the target on his back.  Robin is capable in beating people his size and larger.  In 2023, he did defeat Main Maxx who was the final competitor when Jake De Leon won the belt last month.  Main Maxx is a formidable opponent whether it is Jake, Rex Lawin or Robin.

There's no question that I can possibly see him with the MWF title sometime in 2024!

11 January 2024

The Next Title Defense

It is about three months away from Manila Wrestling Federation's next event.  The event will be Kasaysayan on Sunday, April 14th.  It will take place at the UP Film Institute in Quezon City.

With Jake De Leon now as the two time - MWF Pinoy Wrestling Champion, this fan has been asked who his first opponent will be for the title.

I'm not a matchmaker here.  This blogger can say that "Danger" Rex Lawin did win the Number One Contenders match against Ho Ho Lun at Noche Buena.  Normally, that would be the next match.

Fabio Makisig deserves a return match for the belt.  I say this especially since he wasn't pinned by Jake De Leon.  He was pinned by Oro Plata Mata teammate, Main Maxx.

Main Maxx, being in the final pairing against Jake De Leon, deserves a title shot as well, especially how the match concluded.  For those that haven't seen it, the match, in its entirety is on You Tube.   Please check the Manila Wrestling Federation page, and more important, please subscribe!  There are close to 5,000 subscribers!

There are more wrestlers in line such as Dabid Ravena, Nigel San Jose, Kurt Jiminez, Robin Sane and more wanting to get a shot at the title.  When one is a champion, you are more likely to be hunted than being the hunter!

Back to Fabio and to Main Maxx for a moment, both have interesting situations going forward.

Fabio likely has Danny Zamora on his mind.  Is Danny out of the stable after what happened at Noche Buena?

With Main Maxx, it's perhaps more than one wrestler since he was a part of Oro Plata Mata.

However, recently, Main Maxx is reuniting with R O M E O as part of a tag team known as The Gemini Kings.  They will be wrestling in an event sponsored by Dexcon called Wrestle Storm in March.  Their opponents will be the WUW International Tag Team Champions in Saint John Martin and Ken Cifer.  Will one or both teams be a part of MWF going forward in 2024?

We will learn more in the next few weeks.

Interview #9 - Jag Garcia

Jag Garcia is one of the most knowledgeable wrestling fans that I know, not just from the Philippines, but worldwide.

Jag co-founded a podcast group known as Kayfabe Cafe back in 2015 with Ant Sierra.  Jag has stepped away to focus on some other things in the meantime.

I've yet to meet him in person but he's one of my avid followers on the blog.  He started following wrestling in 2004.  Definitely, it was a good time in the industry.  A lot of my followers started watching wrestling around that time.

One of the things about Jag, and the Pinoy wrestling community, is their passion and knowledge of this industry.  Despite all the years following it, there is so much more to learn about the squared circle.

Jag is definitely one of the nicest people, let alone wrestling fans, that I've known on social media.  Am definitely looking forward to meeting him when returning to the Philippines in early December.

Recently, Jag was gracious to do an interview and answer some wrestling questions.  Thank you for wanting to do this.  Here it is.

Wayne:  When did you begin to follow wrestling?

Jag:  I started watching wrestling some time around 2004, shortly after WrestleMania XX. Before then, I only knew a bit of it here. I remember first hearing that wrestling is staged is from an episode of The Little Lulu Show in the 90s.

Wayne:  Who was your favorite wrestler when you began watching?

Jag:  Definitely Eddie Guerrero! I blame him for breaking my moral compass because he got me to cheer for him even if he lied, cheated, and stole. Haha!

Wayne:  When did you begin to follow Pinoy Wrestling? Was it Philippine Wrestling Revolution, Manila Wrestling Federation, Filipino Pro Wrestling and/or World Underground Wrestling - Philippines?

Jag:  My first exposure to the Pinoy Wrestling scene was around 2014, when a certain classical character of PWR visited Cubao Expo, an art village in Quezon City. He showed us videos of their recent show which was at Makati Cinema Square at the time. About a year later, I got to attend my first show in November 2015, which was their first show in iAcademy.

Wayne:  Do you have a favorite wrestler or wrestlers in any of the Pinoy Wrestling promotions?

Jag:  Fabio Makisig, and even if I boo them, Jake De Leon and Robin Sane, too. They're all amazing performers and earned the reputation they have in the scene.

Wayne:  Would you like to see more of things like Meet And Greets, Sports Card shows involving wrestlers and/or memorabilia?

Jag:  Most definitely! It's great to bring fans together and even bring in more fans to the scene. When I was with Kayfabe Cafe, we would run WWE and NJPW watch parties at the bar I managed. Seeing how they were able to pull off DexCon, I'm excited to see them run more events in the future. I'm kinda resisting the cardboard crack at the moment, but it's really cool to see what everyone got in their collection!

Wayne:  What are your thoughts on wrestling in the Philippines now and its future?

Jag:  The Pinoy wrestling has met a lot of hardships. It was painful to see hurdle after hurdle, but as the saying goes, Filipinos are resilient. Seeing how far our community has taken it to achieve TV shows and more wrestling-centric events, things are about to get much better. As long as everybody focuses on their goals and keep making the product better, I believe the Philippines will be a sought-after destination for wrestling.

MWF: Gigil At Romansa Results

Here are the results from Manila Wrestling Federation's show, Gigil At Romansa.  The event took place on Sunday, July 9th at Mandala Park in Mandaluyong.  Due to bad weather, the event was moved from the QC Memorial Circle.

Fabio Makisig (C) d. Dabid Ravena and retains the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship.

Nigel San Jose d. Main Maxx

Bro. Jomar Liwanag d. Ken Cifer.

Danny Zamora d. Isaiah Valencia.

Migs Valdez d. CJ Serafin.

Razael d. Pink Shirt.

White Shirt d. El Kapitunero.  White Shirt is now Kurt Jiminez and becomes part of Oro Plata Mata.

Jake De Leon d. Crystal.

Super Friends and HSSL end up a no contest because of the interference of Robin Sane.

Robin Sane d. Joya.

Ace Of Philippine Wrestling vs. Mr Philippine Wrestling

There's a healthy wrestling rivalry going on right now in the Philippines and in the Manila Wrestling Federation.

Mr. Philippine Wrestling, Jake De Leon, a veteran of the squared circle.  His opponent in Sunday's MWF: Todos Los Wrestling encounter was the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Champion, Fabio Makisig.

I've been grateful to talk with both wrestlers over nearly the past year.  Both have been generous and grateful with their time.  In each, they have shared things about the history in Pinoy Wrestling, training methods, some of their background, etc.  Speaking of training, both wrestlers have greatly stepped up their games since the 2022 Noche Buena show.  You can see it in both.

Pro Wrestling needs rivalries like this.  When I see this, it would be like Giants-Dodgers in baseball or 49ers-Cowboys in football.  Both men have had the title belt on one occasion.  Along with Robin Sane, the first title holder, and Ho Ho Lun from Hong Kong, the second, the title belt has been in good hands.

Right now, it will be interesting what happens with both wrestlers after their recent encounter.  This fan does know this.  From talking with Fabio, Jake, the Pinoy Wrestling community, as well as people from the other two promotions in the Philippines, the following message continues to come up.

Pro wrestling is in a good place right now in the Philippines.  It will continue to improve and get better.  This is happening in several Southeast Asia countries.  Definitely, it is on the rise in this country!
