Wrestling Shows And Matches

Hello everyone!

In my two years plus of watching Southeast Asia wrestling live, there have been some good shows, and definitely some good matches.

Certainly, my first show, MWF's Noche Buena in December 2022 will always be special.  The Jake De Leon vs Fabio Makisig match had this blogger on the end of his seat.

There was also the four way women's match at the 2023 Noche Buena show that was really good. It elevated the Pinay wrestling scene in the Philippines where it has a great future.

The Dexcon show that I went to in August 2023 at the Brawl Pit Bulusan was a real good one with top quality matches.

Then, there was the first PUSO Wrestling show this past August.  It was amazing that a show was put together in a couple of months time.  As always, kudos to the promotion.  It was a historical and enjoyable night of action.

Back in August 2023, I was fortunate to see my first Filipino Pro Wrestling show at Circuit Makati.  It was the company's first year in operation.

There were several good matches that afternoon/evening.  The Mike Madrigal-Duke Ortega FPW Title match was good.  The Yolo Twins vs. Evan Carleaux-Cali Nueva tag team encounter was good as well.

The main event between Ralph Imabayashi and Robbie Eagles had the fans and myself in a fever pitch at the PMC Spotlight Theater.  I remembered Imabayashi wondering if he felt he could still wrestle effectively prior to the match.

All this wrestling blogger can say is that the match was one of the best I had seen in several years.  The match had a lot of excitement, actual wrestling and more.  The fans were standing at the end of the match.  Certainly, Ralph proved to those at PMC that he is still effective!

When saying this, it includes local independent promotions, New Japan Pro Wrestling, AEW and WWE house shows that I've been to in the Bay Area.

As a wrestling fan and blogger, it is appreciative what wrestlers like Ralph, Robbie, Jake, Fabio and others do on not only on the day of the event, but the workouts leading up to it.

At the same time, I'll continue to post entries on the various wrestling promotions throughout the Southeast Asia region.  The wrestlers and fans deserve this from this blogger.  I have some ideas regarding the future of the blog and will share them early next month.

Regarding future wrestling shows, am looking forward to the New Japan Pro Wrestling show in San Jose this coming January.  The fact that Zack Sabre Jr. is planning to be there is one of the reasons.

After that, I have some thinking and saving to do....

Happy Holidays everyone!  Please be safe out there.

Pinoy Wrestling Year In Review

This blogger was a little hesitant about doing the following post.  Since another year of my life, and Christmas are happening soon, now is a good time to do this.

After "wrestling" with the post,  this blogger wants to share the following thoughts about Pinoy Wrestling in 2024.  Hopefully, no one will be upset with what is mentioned here.  If anyone feels that way, please feel free to message SFWayne on Facebook or comment here on blogger.

The year of 2024 began with three wrestling promotions in the Philippines as well as an independent group.  The country had Dexcon (independent group), Filipino Pro Wrestling, World Underground Wrestling - Philippines and the Manila Wrestling Federation.

Remembering 2023 as I do, this blogger was able to attend four wrestling shows amongst the three promotions while on vacation.  Being there, viewing what was happening, seeing, listening to, and reading fan reaction, the world of local pro wrestling in the Philippines was, perhaps, at an all time high.

The fan bases were, and are, amazing!  From the day I started doing this blog, the wrestlers and staff from each promotion have been very cooperative and respectful.  Am grateful to all of you.  Going to a wrestling show in the Philippines is the best!

The year 2024 started well with everyone.  There were shows with all four mentioned and it appeared that things were going well.  Being outside the Philippines, you would have never known that something was about to change.

Unfortunately, the Manila Wrestling Federation didn't make it into May.  The company folded after one major show in April, Kasasayan.

This blogger won't go into what happened.  All of us, hopefully have moved on from a very bleak and unfortunate time back then.  Roughly 40 employees from the promotion were wondering if they would ever wrestle, work the event, or let alone perform again?

Thanks to Fabio Makisig and many others, a new promotion, PUSO Wrestling was formed in June.  In a few weeks, in August, the promotion hosted their first show.  By the end of November, the company hosted three shows, the roster has grown and the promotion now has their initial Pusong Pinoy Wrestling Champion.  The Pinay (women) wrestlers have grown as well.

This blogger doesn't know if there is another promotion on the planet that had to endure what PUSO Wrestling did!  They did, and the promotion is here to stay!  On this end, I'm grateful to everyone in the promotion to be involved in a small way, and will continue to do so in 2025!

Filipino Pro Wrestling needed to prove themselves as well.  While PUSO Wrestling was growing, FPW was starting their second year as a company.  The promotion has had to endure things of their own.  Coming off a productive first year, would the sophomore jinx hit the promotion?

Fortunately, it didn't.  Yes, there was the move from the PMC Spotlight Theater to Baked Studios but they were still in Makati.  Though this blogger has not been inside the venue, it appears from wrestling fans that this is a better place for the promotion.

FPW had five shows this year.  Their pinnacle event was the October show.  Jeff Cobb, wrestling with New Japan Pro Wrestling these days, won the FPW title from Mike Madrigal.  Mike had held the belt for 547 days, an enormous amount in any promotion.  Also, in 2024, FPW opened up an FPW Academy for possible new talent.  From this, the roster is slowly growing.  Hopefully, the women wrestling scene will grow in 2025!

Right now, FPW has their shows from the past year on their You Tube channel.  Please check it out.

World Underground Wrestling - Philippines had their show on July 7th this year in Tagay Na! which was a sellout and a huge success.  WUW - Philippines has also been involved with the numerous Dexcon shows that happened this year.

Speaking of Dexcon, what a year for the group!  The organization had events such as Wrestle Storm, Dexcon Decada and Jam Of The Joshi's/Graveyard Shift.  All of the shows have been "dynamite" with various local and wrestlers from Asia participating.  Thanks, as always, to Linus, Rosh, Cholo and others involved.  They are always trying to bring the best of wrestling talent to the Philippines.  I'm sure 2025 will have more surprises for Pinoy wrestling fans.

This blogger is grateful to see the cooperation between promotions.  The latest PUSO Wrestling show had Robynn from FPW participating in the Pinay Gauntlet match.  There were several wrestlers from FPW who were invited, and appeared at the show.  In seeing this, it's a good sign.  When doing this blog, promotions from countries such as Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia are doing this as well.  Hopefully, the fans at the PUSO event in November appreciated the talents of Robynn.  I had a chance to see her firsthand at my only FPW show in August 2023.

The Pinoy Wrestling scene going into 2025 is in good shape just as it was last year.  Continued growth and improvement is important.  Surely, all the promotions know this going into the new year.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Jam Of The Joshis Update #2

Hello everyone!

A huge match has been added for Dexcon's Jam Of The Joshi's show.  The event takes place at Brawl Pit Bulusan, Saturday, October 13th beginning at 6pm in Quezon City.

The Horrors (Da Butcherman and Dr. Gore) will put the SPW Southeast Asian Tag Team Championship on the line against PUSO Wrestling's Super Friends (Super P and El Kapitunero).

The Horrors are definitely a well known tag team wrestling, not only in Singapore, but in numerous countries throughout Southeast Asia.  They are definitely a team to be reckoned with.

Super Friends are no slouch either.  Both Super P and El Kapitunero have teamed up several times as well as in singles competition.  It will, undoubtedly, be their biggest test, and match, to date.

For more, including tickets, please visit the Dexcon Facebook page.  Thank you.

Cross Promoting

Growing up with pro wrestling in the Territory Era in North America, there was something interesting that this blogger learned early on.

About two years after first watching wrestling on television, this blogger first came across a wrestling magazine known as The Wrestler.  Remember everyone, back then, there was no internet!

It was a shock to find out that there were actually three promotions in North America and not one!  I grew up in the National Wrestling Alliance territory and thinking it was the only one.

However, there were two other promotions in the American Wrestling Association (Midwest Region) and the World Wide Wrestling Federation (East Coast Region).  It would be extremely rare if a wrestler from one region back in 1968 would wrestle in another one.  The only exception I could remember early on was the WWWF's Bruno Sammartino doing a couple of shows against the NWA's Ray Stevens at the Daly City Cow Palace.

Things were very tight amongst the heads of the different groups back then.  Definitely, it was big business and up until the 1970s, one promotion would not "invade" another's territory.  The invasion began in 1969 when the American Wrestling Alliance invaded NWA territory with a show in the Los Angeles area (The Forum in Inglewood).  NWA was the territory back then with shows at the Olympic Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles.

Jumping forward a half century, in Southeast Asia, there are a few pro wrestling promotions throughout the various countries.  Unlike the days of The Territory Era in North America, pro wrestling in Southeast Asia is definitely a breath of fresh air!  The heads of the various promotions are far more receptive in a wrestler from one country visiting another.

This blogger has been following a recent pro wrestling tour of Japan involving Jake De Leon (PUSO Wrestling - Philippines), Shivam (SETUP - Thailand) along with Dr. Gore (SPW), Monomoth (SETUP), Chris Brookes and Masa Takanashi (SETUP, DDT Pro Wrestling, ChocoPro).  A couple of fans from abroad were able to attend the tour as well.

There were the Baka Gaijin and ChocoPro shows that were definitely memorable.  Then there was the legendary show at Korakuen Hall where many Japanese pro wrestling shows have taken place.  I believe the tour ends in Saitama before the wrestlers return to the respective countries.

Over the last few weeks, this blogger has been trying to keep up with several wrestlers.  While I was in the Philippines, Filipino Pro Wrestling's, Chino Guinto took part in a Vietnam Pro Wrestling show at the VAIB Studio.  Before this, Jake De Leon (PUSO Wrestling) and Mike Madrigal (Filipino Pro Wrestling) traveled to Malaysia for an APAC Wrestling show.  The Eurasian Dragon and a couple of other wrestlers from Ring Of Rebirth Singapore wrestled in the show as well.

Earlier in the year, Dexcon Philippines promoted a couple of shows with Zack Sabre Jr. (NJPW), Chris Brookes and Masa Takanashi (SETUP, DDT, ChocoPro) appearing.

In about two weeks, September 14th, the Philippines own, Crystal, will be appearing at Middle Kingdom Wrestling's Championship Supercard show in Shanghai.  She will be taking on Yuki Kamifuku for the SPW Queen Of Asia Championship.

The point this blogger is making is that the cross promotion of wrestling talent in Southeast Asia is a very healthy one for pro wrestling in the region. It spurs interest, grows the industry and helps the economy.  Friendships are strengthened as well.

There is no question in this wrestling fan's mind that the Japan visit was a success!  From what was posted in Social Media, all of the wrestlers had a great time and were receptive positively by the fans who attended.  Definitely, there are exciting times ahead for sports entertainment in the region.

Heart2Heart Update

Hello everyone!

The Philippines' PUSO Wrestling has announced that their next show, Heart2Heart, will take place on Saturday, September 21st.  The venue is the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City beginning at 6pm.

One match has been announced for the show as of the last few hours.

Joya will face Chelsea Marie in one of several matches of the show.  This has the makings of a great match!

Both wrestlers came off good performances from the inaugural show, Unang Tibok, held last month.  Joya faced a rugged opponent in Aaron Liwanag and, more than, held her own.  Chelsea Marie did likewise in the Main Event against Mr. Philippine Wrestling, Jake De Leon.

There is something special added to this match.  The winner of this match will headline next month's Dexcon event in an International Dream Match.  The event is called Jam Of The Joshis that will take place on Sunday, October 13th.  This blogger will share more on that in the days ahead in a separate post.

For more information, including tickets, please visit the PUSO Wrestling Facebook page.  From now through Saturday, August 31st, fans can save 5% when buying tickets!  Thank you.

Matchmaker - Linus

During this blogger's recent visit to the Philippines, had the opportunity to meet two people whom are important in the wrestling scene.  I'm actually going to do the two separately.

Linus Joshua (hopefully the blogger has this correct.  If incorrect Linus, please message me and will correct) is a match maker for Dexcon.  For those not knowing what Dexcon is, the group began in 2023 promoting matches involving local pinoy and out of country wrestling talent as well as Meet And Greets.

Their first show was, I believe, in August 2023.  In 2024, they will be hosting their third show, the weekend of October 12-13.

This blogger was at the show last year and was impressed with what happened.  The Meet And Greet and the wrestling show took place at the Brawl Pit Bulusan on a Monday which was a National holiday for the country.  Next to Brawl Pit is a nice cafe called Onyang's which I recommend to anyone who visits.

Honestly, I didn't remember if I met Linus at the August show last year but wanted to meet him last weekend.  This blogger was definitely humbled with the opportunity.

Linus and Dexcon have put on several exceptional shows.  The August 2023 show had local pinoy wrestlers from WUW - Philippines and current PUSO talent.  Alexis Lee, Poppy, Kojio Akumu and Steve The Teacher (now Afam Steve) were from promotions outside the Philippines and added a flavor that made it an entertaining evening.

Dexcon's shows this year have had the likes of the Calamari Drunken Kings (Chris Brookes and Masahiro Takanashi) and Zach Sabre Jr. at their two shows.  They were both well attended and were well quality events.  Dexcon deserves a lot of kudos for their effort.  Wrestle Storm and Dexcon Decada were superb!

Linus is not alone in the effort.  He has a support crew whom I chat with almost everyday that helps this blogger promote the shows better.

Their next show is actually two shows as well as a Meet And Greet to my understanding.  The event will take place the weekend of October 12-13.  This blogger will have more on the event in the coming days.

PUSO Wrestling's Next Show

PUSO Wrestling in the Philippines has announced their next show!

The event, Heart2Heart, will take place on Saturday, September 21 at 6pm.  The venue is the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City.  The following part is courtesy of PUSO Wrestling so will post it here...

PUSO Wrestling's 2nd show gives you twice the action, twice the drama, and twice the fun!

In the main event, two formidable Pinay Wrestlers go head-to-head (or shall we say, heart-to-heart?) in a battle to see who gets to headline Dexcon's Jam of the Joshis in October.

We also have two semi-final matches of the Pusong Pinoy Wrestling Championship Tournament—who are the last two competitors standing to make it all the way to the final round? PLUS! More exciting matches featuring your favorite Puso stars!

For more information on the show, including tickets,  please visit the PUSO Wrestling Facebook page.  Ticket prices for the show will be 5% off when you buy through August 31st which is one week away from today!

Last weekend's debut show was a sellout so please don't be left out!  Thank you.

Final Unang Tibok Pre Show Thoughts

Hello everyone!

The excitement has been building as PUSO Wrestling will finally debut tomorrow (Saturday) night.  The event, Unang Tibok, will take place at the Brawl Pit Bulusan (Bulusan and Calamba Streets) in Quezon City beginning at 6pm.

Please note the following info!  For SVIP ticket holders, the gates will open at 5pm.  For VIP tickets, the gates open at 5:30pm.  For General Admission, the gates will open at 5:45pm.  My error from the last post regarding the VIP and GM tickets and time of entry.

There are less than 20 tickets remain as of last night.  Hopefully, those reading this don't feel that this fan is being pushy.  We're encouraging everyone who wants to come out to please do so.  Certainly, there are fans who may have other obligations that day.  All of us totally understand this.  To the fans who have tickets, and those who are unable to attend, but have supported from the beginning,  thank you for your support!

In the weeks leading up to Saturday, PUSO Wrestling has done everything, and the right way, in preparing for the show.  There have been television appearances, social media posts, and everything communicative making this happen!  Also, thank you to Dexcon and WUW-Philippines for providing shows in the interim leading up to tomorrow's inaugural event.  Hopefully all the fans supporting the promotion are excited about Saturday.  Certainly, this fan is!

Once again, here is the lineup of matches for tomorrow's show.  As always, the lineup is subject to change.

Jake De Leon vs. Chelsea Marie in the Main Event.

Joey Rosas vs. Super P.

Nigel "Suplex" San Jose vs. Isaiah Valencia.

Unang Tibok Update #7

Hello everyone!  A couple of things.  My apologies if this is a bit long, but please read it if you have a chance.

As some of you may know, PUSO Wrestling's first show, Unang Tibok is one week away on Saturday, August 17th.  The venue is the Brawl Pit Bulusan beginning at 6pm.

The General Admission and SVIP Tickets are now sold out as of yesterday.  However, a few VIP tickets remain at the 8.8% discount TODAY only!  Please see the PUSO Wrestling Facebook page for more information.  If you are going, plan on purchasing them today.  It is likely that if you wait until next week, you might be disappointed (like no tickets for the shoe left!).  Thank you on this.

Also, this blogger wants to give a shoutout to Dexcon and Solar Sports for last night's showing of the Dexcon Wrestle Storm show on their channel.  From the little I saw, the sound and picture quality was excellent.  Hopefully, those that had a chance to see it will appreciate what is happening here.

Worldwide, including America, it is difficult these days to keep pro wrestling on any channel or network.  With the WWE, both RAW and Smackdown will be leaving USA and FOX by the end of this year.  I'm not sure on this, and will check, but I believe Smackdown is going back to USA.  NXT will be staying on USA for the moment.  Both networks did well with pro wrestling in ratings despite other programing in their various time slots.

Having Pinoy Wrestling on any kind of cable channel is a plus for the local industry, wrestlers and fans alike.  If anyone has time, please call or even email Solar Sports to let them know how much one appreciates this.  It will mean a lot.  This blogger will do likewise shortly.

Thank you to those with Dexcon and to Solar Sports for making this happen.  It will help the local wrestling industry now and the future!

I will have a couple of more PUSO Wrestling posts next week.  In the meantime, have a good weekend everyone!

Dexcon

This post is long, long overdue.  At the same time, it's important for me to share this with the readers.

This blogger first heard of Dexcon a little over a year ago.  It was before the summer visit to the Philippines.

I'm not sure when the idea of an organization such as Dexcon began.  However, the fact that the organization organizes pro wrestling in the Philippines is great!

This blogger was fortunate to attend a wrestling show and Meet and Greet last August.  As mentioned in a recent post, wrestlers from the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore appeared in the event.  The show that evening at the Brawl Pit Bulusan, in my mind the mecca of Pinoy wrestling, was great!

Since the August show, Dexcon has sponsored two other shows, both in 2024.

Wrestle Storm took place in March.  There were some great matches.  The featured match featured CDK (Masahiro Takanashi and Chris Brookes) versus Dabid Ravena and Jake De Leon.  This match is certainly a main event anywhere in Southeast Asia.  If people in North America knew more about the talent in Southeast Asia, this match would be treated as a main event as well.

Dexcon Decada, the second event this year, could have not come at an important time in modern day Pinoy wrestling history.  This blogger was told that Zach Sabre Jr., the world's best technical wrestler, was in demand for quite some time.  ZSJ was definitely gracious in appearing in wrestling shows in Thailand in Match and in the Dexcon Decada show.  This blogger has seen part of this match against Jake De Leon.  It may have been the best, if not most memorable in Pinoy wresting history.

Right now, it isn't known when Dexcon will have its next show.  However, the organization has set the standard in putting on quality wrestling shows.  The Pinoy wrestling fans and this blogger thanks Dexcon for keeping Pinoy wrestling going!

A Look Back

Hello everyone!

This post either was deleted or the blogger never posted it.  In either case, my apologies that this happened.

In the middle with Ken Cifer (l) and Steve The Teacher (now AFAM Steve).  The Meet And Greet was a blast!

Last year, on Monday, August 21, there was a wrestling show sponsored by Dexcon and WUW-Philippines.  The show featured wrestlers from World Underground Philippines, Manila Wrestling Federation, Singapore Pro Wrestling, APAC Wrestling (Malaysia) and a wrestler who formerly wrestled for Middle Kingdom Wrestling in China.

The day featured a Meet and Greet as well as a wrestling show at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.  There were five matches on the show.  Here are the results from memory....

Robin Sane d, Zera.

Ken Cifer d. Steve The Teacher.

Dabid Ravena d. Razael in a Hardcore Match.

Alexis Lee d. Poppy, Crystal and Chelsea Marie in, what turned out to be a four way for the SPW Queen Of Asia Championship.

Crystal, St. John Martin, The Machine and Ken Cifer d. Poppy, Jake De Leon, Dabid Ravena and Kojio Akumu.

Note: Alexis Lee was the special guest referee and did a superb job at it!

This fan had a blast at the show.  It was the first time visiting the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City.  Though a small venue, it was perfect for the show.   The adjoining restaurant, Onyang's Place serves good food and drinks.  This fan remembers the great quesadillas and what, I believe, was San Miguel Beer that was brought into the venue!

It is nearly a year since this has happened.  How time flies!

PWL Super Show Update #3

Hello everyone!   There have been several updates regarding the PWL Super Show coming up on Friday, February 14th in Australia.   Matt Hayte...
