WUW Philippines

Hello everyone.

It's important with this blog to mention every wrestling promotion, active or not.  This blogger hasn't mentioned this promotion enough.  Going forward, there will be more posts regarding the following promotion.

The oldest, if you want to call five years old, active wrestling promotion is World Underground Wrestling - Philippines.  WUW-PH, for short, is a branch of World Underground Wrestling.  WUW started in the 18th Century, and in France.

Per numerous sources, WUW-PH's first show took place on October 5, 2019.  The show, WUW PH Dojo Storm took place at the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City, Philippines.

The show was a success with seven matches.  A couple of days after the show, the promotion began putting their matches on You Tube for viewing.

Led by Saint John Martin, the promotion has had some shows.  Prior to the 2020-2021 covid pandemic, WUW-PH did have three shows, roughly one per month.

Slowly but surely, since the return in 2022, WUW - PH has had some shows, the latest being the show, Tagay Na! that took place on July 7th.

WUW-PH does have one championship title currently.  That is the World Underground Wrestling Tag Team Titles currently held by Saint John Martin and Ken Cifer.  The pair won the belts this past December and have defended it successfully several times this year.

Those that have appeared at WUW - PH shows have included wrestlers from the newest wrestling promotion in the country, PUSO Wrestling.  The performers include Saint John Martin, Ken Cifer, Dabid Ravena, Razael, Kanta Terror, Silent D, Zera, Main Maxx, Pinoy Bulldog and more.

This blogger has been to one of their shows which was August of last year.  For those reading this post, I would definitely recommend any wrestling fan to see a show when one is announced again.

Unang Tibok Update #4

Hello everyone!

My apologies on this but there are two additional names that this blogger left out from the last post.  We are talking about PUSO Wrestling's upcoming show, Unang Tibok.  The venue is the Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City on Saturday, August 17th beginning at 7pm.

In the Jun Capilos Jr. Battle Royal, Serafin Liwanag and Jomar will join Danny Zamora, Dabid Ravena, Fabio Makisig, Ken Cifer, Patricia Ligaya and Brother Benny.  The match rules is that a wrestler needs to be thrown over the top rope to be eliminated from the competition.

There may possibly be additional wrestlers or even possible additional matches.  If there are, this blogger will update the readers.  For now, the poster you see at the top of the page are the matches made so far.  As always, in any wrestling show, the card is subject to change!

Tickets for the event are still available.  Please visit the PUSO Wrestling Facebook page.  Also, PUSO Wrestling can be found on Instagram, You Tube and X.

If anyone would like to sponsor for this show, or have any questions about sponsoring, please enmail PUSO Wrestling at pusowrestling@gmail.com for details.  Thank you.

One Week Away

One week away until the visit.

This post is focused on the new Pinoy Wrestling promotion in PUSO Wrestling.  It can be very well focused on all pro wrestling promotions in Southeast Asia.

The upcoming visit to the Philippines means a lot to this wrestling fan.  When originally planning and making reservations for the visit, the last thing that this wrestling fan thought would be a popular wrestling promotion would abruptly end its operation.

I don't want to dwell on this, but the closing hurt a lot.  In my lifetime as a pro wrestling fan, this is the second time that a wrestling promotion that, I was close to, abruptly ceased operations.

In 1981, this fan was a big supporter of Big Time Wrestling San Francisco.  This fan went to numerous wrestling shows in the San Francisco Bay Area.  This happened for about 11 years of my life.

A couple of days after the 1981 show, a Battle Royal and an NWA World Title match between Harley Race and one of my idols, Ray Stevens, the promotion shut down for good.  It was gut wrenching and did not watch wrestling for weeks.  The area did not have wrestling locally for nearly 15 months.

This fan, knew very much, how the Pinoy wrestling fans felt who followed this promotion.  I had a very good sense of how officials of the popular promotion felt.  Certainly, this blogger along with the fans, felt for all the wrestlers involved.  I write about their progress in wrestling and more.

The blow softened a little with a Dexcon show called Dexcon Decada.  Then, there was the emails and invitations to Pinoy Wrestling Night.  The end of the show would announce the new promotion, PUSO Wrestling.  There have been numerous posts on social media about the upcoming show, Unang Tibok on Saturday, August 17th.  The show takes place at the Brawl Pit Bulusan beginning at 6pm.  For more information, please see the PUSO Wrestling Facebook page.

In a very short time, the promotion is doing well.  A lot of people....wrestlers, officials, wrestling fans and this blogger are trying to get the word out about the show.  Patience is important here as well as getting the word out as a unit.  Please continue doing what you're doing right now!

To wrestling fans in the Southeast Asia area....this is a definitely a feel good story.  As a blogger on this platform, hopefully what happened in the Philippines will NEVER happen to your favorite promotion.  Please never assume that your favorite promotion will never abruptly end its operation.  The quote "never say never" should always be in your minds.

Unang Tibok in a little over four weeks time!  The Pinoy wrestling fans, wrestlers, referees, officials and yours truly cannot wait!  I'll see you guys soon!

A Look Back - Ring Of Rebirth

Hello everyone!

Just recently, Ring Of Rebirth Singapore (or RoR Wrestling) celebrated its second anniversary as a promotion.

For those that don't know, RoR Wrestling began in 2022.  As the third, and newest promotion in Singapore, ROR Wrestling, led by The Eurasian Dragon, had its first show on July 9th.  The theme was called RoR - Press Start and was held at the Goldpine Industrial Building.  The location has hosted a few pro wrestling shows over the years.

The promotion does it in a studio type format, something very familiar especially in the Territory Era days.  The Eurasian Dragon has done a great job with the local talent such as Nyc, Varun Khanna, BGJ, Mr. Geylang, Erfie, Kuhan Bluestar and others.  Wrestlers from nearby countries such as Vietnam, Australia and Hong Kong.

The Eurasian Dragon, himself, wrestles on occasions and has wrestled throughout Southeast Asia.  He appeared at a recent APAC Wrestling show in Malaysia and did quite well in a tag team match.

Kudos to The Eurasian Dragon and to RoR Wrestling.  Their latest shows, RoR Wrestling #8 through #10 were recently taped and will be out on You Tube soon.   This blogger cannot wait who was on the show and the matches that took place. As soon as the announcement is received here, I will announce it on the blog.

Wrestling Venues

Legendary announcer, Walt Harris interviewing Kinji Shibuya at the KTVU studios in Oakland, CA.

Wrestling fans in America, for the most part, love the large venues.  Certainly Madison Square Garden, Crypto.com Arena, United Center and others come to mind.

However, what about the small arenas or venue?

Before seeing my first big wrestling show at the Cow Palace in Daly City, it was seeing a one hour wrestling show at a television studio in Oakland.  KTVU Channel 2 would originally televise their promotional shows at 9pm each Friday night for a few years.  One night, some family friends and I had a chance to see a show.  There were four matches in the one hour time slot with commercials.  It was a beginning for this wrestling fan.

I've been fortunate to see some shows in all different venues.  Wrestlemania 31 at Levi's Stadium was monumental.  However, seeing a show in a small venue is every bit as important.

My last show was this past weekend at the United Irish Cultural Center with West Coast Pro Wrestling.  Several names were on the show, though Robbie Eagles, who was mentioned, didn't appear.  It was possible because of the IT issues that Eagles wasn't there.  The names of Shelton Benjamin, Titus Alexander, Alex Shelley and Alan Angels made up for it though.  It was a nice and exciting evening of independent pro wrestling in the Sunset District.

My next show......a little over four weeks at the venue above.  Brawl Pit Bulusan in Quezon City, Philippines.  The venue has hosted wrestling shows for several years now.  The upcoming event, Unang Tibok will be the inaugural show for the promotion, PUSO Wrestling.

Right now, there are six matches scheduled for the show.

Four of the matches are part of a tournament to declare an inaugural Pusong Pinoy Wrestling Champion.

There will be a battle royal in honor of a late, huge wrestling fan.  The Jun Capilos Jr. Battle Royal will be an exciting one to watch.

Also, the Pinay Vixen, Chelsea Marie will face "Mr. Philippine Wrestling" Jake De Leon in the Main Event.  This is a return match from the Pinoy Wrestling Night last month.

For more information, including tickets, please visit the PUSO Wrestling Facebook page.  PUSO Wrestling can also be found on Instagram, X and You Tube.

Finally, if anyone, or anyone you know is interesting in sponsoring the show, please email PUSO Wrestling at pusowrestling@gmail.com for more details.  Thank you.

A Look Back At SPW

The other night, this blogger had a chance to watch Dante Chen (formerly Trexxus in SPW) on television in a title match against Ethan Page for the NXT Title.  Dante fared well in the match but fell just a little short.  However, it was exciting to see him on television for the first time though I've been following his matches on Facebook.

During the pandemic in 2020, this blogger watched a lot of You Tube videos of Southeast Asia wrestling promotions.  The Philippines, Vietnam and Singapore wrestling shows really caught my eye.

Since watching Dante Chen last week,  this blogger went back and watched several videos of Singapore Pro Wrestling shows over the past several years.

The promotion, I believe, is the oldest in Southeast Asia, began in 2012.  Their first show was an event called SPW Open House in October.  The names, that this fan learned quickly, were "The Statement" Andruew Tang and The Eurasian Dragon.  Soon afterwards, the names of Trexxus. Aiden Rex and Alexis Lee were wrestlers that I enjoyed watching.

Singapore Pro Wrestling has been very consistent with the shows over the years.  Not only does the promotion have their local talent in Singapore.  Wrestlers, from other promotions in Southeast Asia and beyond, travel and wrestle in their shows.  Though I've never been to one of their shows live, I've seen You Tube as well as the premium videos.  The organization is very strong.  Andruew has done great work for this promotion in the nearly 12 years!

Dante Chen (Trexxus), I believe, began his WWE/NXT career in 2021 when the pandemic eased a bit.  I remembered reading in on a couple of websites.  Definitely, this is a great story, for Dante, SPW and wrestling fans throughout Southeast Asia.

When one thinks of pro wrestling in Southeast Asia, whether SPW or any other promotion, the local wrestling scene in the countries are still very young!

Speaking of Singapore Pro Wrestling, their next show, Hardcore Island 2: A Fine City, will take place on Friday, August 16th beginning at 7:30pm.  The venue is the Foo Chow Building.  Please visit SPW on their Facebook page for more information including tickets.  Thank you.

SPW: Hardcore Island 2 Update:

Singapore Pro Wrestling's next show, Hardcore Island 2: A Fine City will take place on Friday, August 16th.  The venue is the Foo Chow Building beginning at 7:30pm.

One match has been added to the show.  The team of Jack N' Cheese (BGJ and CBK) had their open challenge accepted by The Gym Bros (Sunny Z and Benji).

For more on the show, including tickets, please visit the SPW page on Facebook.  Thank you.

Pinoy Wrestling Podcasts

Hello everyone!

In the Philiipines, the country is well covered when it comes to pro wrestling, whether it is local or on the international level.

There are three podcasts that I would like to share with the readers.  Pinoy wrestling fans are probably familiar with these already.  However, this being a Southeast Asia wrestling blog, it would be good to share these with wrestling fans worldwide.

The first one is The Dexcon Podcast.  This one is actually the newest one for this blogger though I've known about it for a little while.  Martin does a great job with this podcast.  I first listened to the podcast earlier this year when Zach Sabre Jr. appeared at a Dexcon wrestling show.  Here is the link for anyone interested in a present or past show...

    https://www.channelfourteen.com/

The next one this blogger wishes to share is the PWPH Podcast and Main Event Mark which is held each Wednesday at 8pm (Philippines) time.

The group, Pro Wrestling PH Club is a club that was created in 2016 and rebranded on December 31, 2022.  Angelo, Danielle, Christian and many others have done a great job with this group.  I was invited into the group in August 2023 and have enjoyed every moment since following.

Pro Wrestling PH Club cam be found on Facebook and a couple of other social media outlets.  Here is the link to their page on Facebook...

      https://www.facebook.com/groups/prowrestlingphclub

The third podcast I would like to share is the longest running one in The Wrestling Wrestling Podcast.

Rowen, Ro, Emile, Stan and Chino are extremely knowledgeable with both the worldwide and local scene in the Philippines.  Usually, their podcasts take place at 7pm on Thursdays (Philippines) and sometimes, subject to change.  Here is the link to The Wrestling Wrestling Podcast on Facebook...

  https://www.facebook.com/wrestlingwrestlingpodcast

One other thing this blogger would like to share.  There was a podcast that ended in June with their 94th episode, Kayfabe Cafe.  Although the podcast ended, please continue to check out their page as long as it's up.  When I first followed pro wrestling in the Philippines, I would listen to a couple of their podcasts.  They had the podcasts for a good eight years and they were definitely good.  All the best to the staff going forward.  Here's the link to their Facebook page...

 https://www.facebook.com/kayfabecafe

Finally, if any wrestling fan reads this, please take the opportunity to at least see their page and follow the group.  It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

APAC Wrestlelegion Update #4

There has been an added match for APAC Wrestlegion for Saturday night.  This blogger found out about this a couple of hours ago.  Slow response by the promotion, I guess.

The Eurasian Dragon from ROR Wrestling in Singapore will team up with Hendo Ramli.  They will take on the team of Joe Louise and K.A.E in a tag team match.

APAC Wrestlelegion will be this evening at the WNZ Arena, Spacerubix, Puchong.

For more information, please visit the APAC Wrestling Facebook page regarding tickets, if any available.  As always with any wrestling show, the card is subject to change.
