Christian And Jordan

Jordan (L) and Christian at Grapplemax's show, Settle Outside in May.

Writing posts on a blog has some challenges.  You never want to slight anyone.  Doing one about Southeast Asia pro wrestling has more challenges. Since I don't live in a country in the region, one depends on tools.  They are the internet, social media, You Tube and whatever streaming one can find.

This blogger has wanted to do this for awhile.  It was making certain that he had enough data to do it.  Today, this blogger wants to share two young pro wrestlers with Grapplemax in Singapore in Christian and Jordan.

A couple of weeks ago, this blogger did one on Simon Siah that was well received.  I wanted to make sure that there were more on the way.  Christian and Jordan were next.  In the future, Aussie Aussie Aussie and several more wrestlers with Grapplemax will be shared on this blog.

The first time seeing both Christian and Jordan on video, and the same show, was in December 2022 in a show known as Gold Standard - The Final.  Christian would defeat a tough wrestler in Showtime, the champion, to win the Wrestle Square Cruiserweight Championship.  Jordan, and his tag team partner, Simon Siah defeated Ban and DJ Kai in a solid tag team match in the same show.

According to Cagematch, a database that provides wrestling results worldwide, the last time the two wrestlers appeared on the same show was back in February 2020 before the pandemic at an event called Fighting Spirit.

In February 2023, the two wrestlers teamed up in an event called Causeway Jam.  It was a show that would have wrestlers from Grapplemax and Malaysia Pro Wrestling.  Emman Azman and JAGO from MYPW would face Christian and Jordan in a tag team match.

There were a couple of times during the match when Christian and Jordan didn't appear to be on the same page.  This can happen anytime with any tag team.  However, after the match, there would be a disagreement between the two.

It would lead to two matches for the Wrestle Square Cruiserweight Championship over the next several months.  The first one match happened at Settle Outside in May in which Christian retained the title.

The second match was a three way with Christian, Jordan and Simon Siah in which Jordan pinned Christian to win the belt.  The event was called Rolling and it happened in August.

Jordan, now the Wrestle Square Cruiserweight Champion has defended the title once, against Jullian at House Party.  His biggest challenge to date will come up this coming November 11th at Grapplemax's Seventh Anniversary show.  His opponent will be legendary Japanese wrestler, Dick Togo.

The last time seeing Togo in the ring was, I believe, in September at a New Japan Pro Wrestling event called Road To Destruction as a member of House Of Torture.  EVIL, SHO and Yujiro Takahashi are a part of this group.

Christian has done well since losing the title.  In the recent Amplify show, he teamed with Sarah to defeat Ryan and Ban for the win.

Personally, I don't know exactly what led up to the first encounter at Settle Outside.  This fan has followed Grapplemax for several months now.

Certainly, one of the words to describe it would be competition and wanting a championship.  From someone who has followed pro wrestling for a long time, there is always this in every promotion.

Rivalries and disagreements will always occur.  The rivalry between Christian and Jordan is a good one and will grow over the next few years.  Both wrestlers are exciting to watch from this fan's view.  You can tell both of them have worked hard to get where they are at today.  Grapplemax is very fortunate to have both on the roster along with the many young stars that are competing for the fans in Singapore.

I would say that down the line, the two will see each other in the ring again.  This blogger and wrestling fans in Singapore cannot wait to see it.

Aksyonovela TV

For those who have had a chance to see the Manila Wrestling Federation shows live, having a chance to see them either on GANK and/or Rock Of Manila TV is a plus.

Since last year when starting to follow MWF on a regular basis, the quality of the shows have been very good.  It definitely reminds this fan of the early days of The Territory Era in the 1960s-1970s.

This fan didn't have the luxury of the internet to watch wrestling shows back then.  There was no social media like Facebook.  It was watching wrestling on television Friday nights for one hour.  It was live in a television studio.  The fans would get a sense who would be wrestling at a large venue such as the Cow Palace once a month.

Television was definitely a major tool back then as it is today.  The other tool was looking through the entertainment section of a local newspaper. It would show an advertisement of the upcoming show the previous Sunday.

This fan, and hopefully all of the kapafeds and wrestling fans alike, have appreciated what the Manila Wrestling Federation has done.  William, Tarek, Veronica, the staff, and the MWF locker room (wrestlers and managers) have busted their tails for all of us.  Getting Rock Of Manila TV on the airwaves in the Philippines has enhanced the number of viewers throughout much of the country.

Some of the other promotions in Southeast Asia are using You Tube, Premier Streaming Network and other tools for their shows.  This is good news for any wrestling fan.  Also, social media outlets such as Facebook, X (Twitter) and Instagram are as well.  Anything to get the word out is a plus!

Finally, this fan is excited to see that next month's 2023 Noche Buena is closing in on a sellout at the PMC Spotlight Theater.  This year for MWF has definitely been a good one and things are looking up!

Looking forward to seeing everyone in less than four weeks in and around Circuit Makati.  If you see me, please say hello.  It will be special!

Interview #14 - Robynn

Continuing with the blog interviews, this one is way overdue and the first with a woman wrestler.

Robynn is one of the early pioneers of women's wrestling in the Philippines.  Along with Crystal, whom this fan has the utmost respect for as well, Ashura and Starling from this blogger's memory, Robynn is one that I first watched on You Tube when first watching the Philippine Wrestling Revolution.

The match this blogger saw was the Wrevolution X2017 show with Robynn and Crystal one-on-one. I believe the match, in its entirety, is still on You Tube today.

What I remembered from the match was how good both wrestlers were and still are today!  Robynn can take punishment and can give it out as well.  She is as tough as nails!

I had the opportunity to see her live when Filipino Pro Wrestling had their final show in August called Astig.  On that show, Robynn faced Thiago in a singles match.  The match will be on You Tube in the future so watch out for it.

Speaking of You Tube, just this past week, Robynn was in a singles match against FPW's, Dax Xaviera.  It is the Astig Episode 7 version.  Please check out this match and all the episodes thus far!

Recently, this blogger did an interview with Robynn.  She was, more than gracious, in wanting to do this.  Being a wrestling fan, I'm sometimes a bit shy asking because of wanting to give performers their space.  However,  this fan is grateful for her doing this.  Robynn, thank you so much.  Hopefully, this will be an inspiration for women to try out for wrestling at a wrestling academy locally.  In Southeast Asia, there are a shortage of women in wrestling.  Hopefully, the trend will change very soon.

Here is the interview.  Hope everyone enjoys it.

Wayne:  Other than the pandemic time, when did you begin in pro wrestling?

Robynn:  I started training in 2015 with PWR and debut in 2016.

Wayne:  Was there a woman wrestler that inspired you or that you followed when you began to watch it?

Robynn:  I wouldn't really say "inspired" me and I "followed", but I did like watching Lita and Trish Stratus back then.

Wayne:  Is there a favorite promotion(s) that you follow today?  It could be local, international or both.

Robynn:  Of course FPW is my favorite local promotion. HAHAHA. As for an international promotion, as much as Ralph and I can, we watch AEW every week.

Wayne:  Do you enjoy participating in singles, tag team matches or both?

Robynn:  I enjoy participating in both singles and tag team matches. Although, if I'm gonna go back to tag team matches, I only want it to be with Martivo.

Wayne:  In your time as a pro wrestler, what do you believe was your most memorable match that you were in?

Robynn:  This is a hard question. Hahahaha. But I would say the 8-man tag house show in Eastwood called Unfather's Day. The reason is kinda personal to me. Hahahaha. 🤭

Wayne:  I'm a big believer that there should be a Women's World Cup championship in Southeast Asia.  There are several titles such as the Queen Of Asia, APAC Women's and a couple more.  Would this be a good idea?  I feel there should be more titles.

Robynn:  For someone who wrestled men almost her entire wrestling career, I feel like women could also go one on one with men for championships and titles.

Wayne:  What are your thoughts on pro wrestling in the Philippines now, and its future?

Robynn:  Pro Wrestling in the Philippines is looking bright. We're just getting started. One day, it will be huge, and no one can stop us.
