MWF Kasaysayan 2024

The 2024 Pro Wrestling year in Southeast Asia has taken off so far with several promotions doing big shows in China, Singapore and Thailand for example.  Well, in the Philippines, there is another one headed your way!

Manila Wrestling Federation will make history in the country at their first event, Kasaysayan, on Sunday, April 14th.  The event will be held at the UP Film Institute, UP Dillman beginning at 4:30pm.

The event will be a co-presentation of wrestlers with the Manila Wrestling Federation and Kyushu Pro Wrestling, based out of Fukuoka, Japan.

Recently before this announcement, this fan wanted to learn more about the promotion and the style of wrestling.  Kyushu Pro Wrestling was founded in October 2007 and actually launched in July 2008 by Ryota Chikuzen.  The promotion, a non profit organization, has been very successful in the 15 years.  They have two active championships in the singles and tag team championships.  To my understanding, the promotion is very much involved in the community with charitable work.

If anyone has heard of a wrestler by the name of Tajiri, he is a very familiar name in Japanese pro wrestling as well as in America.  Tajiri wrestled in ECW and with WWE several years back and is very well known throughout all of Asia.

This fan wasn't aware of this but Tajiri signed with Kyushu Pro Wrestling in January 2003.  Then he won the Kyushi Pro Wrestling Championship at Jokyo 2023 the same night!

So, on April 14th, the kapafeds and pinoy wrestling fans will get a chance to see stars such as Jake De Leon, Fabio Makisig, Tajiri, perhaps the current Kyushi Pro Wrestling champion, Kodai Nazaki and more at the event.

For more info, including tickets, please check the Manila Wrestling Federation website and the ticket2me.net website for more.  Thank you.

JDL vs. Rex Lawin Match

This blogger hasn't done a Manila Wrestling Federation post in awhile.  The reason is that their next show isn't until April.  However, I've seen some things recently that may be of interest to everyone.

As the kapafeds and/or the Pinoy wrestling fans know by now, Jake De Leon won the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Title at the 2023 Noche Buena show in December.  It happened in an eight man elimination match, the final match of the night.

Earlier in the evening, Danger Rex Lawin defeated Ho Ho Lun in a #1 Contender's Match for a future shot at the coveted title.

This fan is not a matchmaker here, and will never be!  The assumption of most fans is that JDL vs. Rex Lawin will happen at the next show in April.  That would be Kasaysayan at the UP Film Institute.  For all of you reading this, that is up to MWF management.  It could happen at the following show, Republika in May.

Definitely, I can see this being a good match.  Both competitors are working hard in getting ready for 2024.  Both wrestlers did finish 2023 with victories which gives both of them momentum.  Also, the two are ring veterans meaning that one could possibly defeat the other on a given night.

Also, this fan believes former champion, Fabio Makisig, at one point, deserves a rematch.  Fabio, because of the rules of the match, lost the title.  However, he was not pinned or submitted to the eventual champion in the match itself.

As well, there is a very good possibility that Jake De Leon may face Main Maxx.  As of this post, we don't know if Main Maxx is still a part of Oro Plata Mata.  It is an assumption that he is no longer with them.  We will know in the upcoming weeks whether that is true.

Speaking of this, looking ahead, this fan is interested seeing the paths of three wrestlers going forward.  During the Noche Buena show, there were some interesting moments at the end of matches involving C.J. Serafin, Danny Zamora and Main Maxx.  All three were a part of three stables within MWF.

Though I won't be there, this fan is excited that Main Maxx is teaming up with Romeo once again.  The Dexcon show in March will tell all of us if the two will team up perhaps in MWF shows sometime during the year.

Recently, I watched a livestream of Libreng Lucha.  Both C.J. Serafin and Danny Zamora were part of a tag team in a two on one handicap.  The event was held at the Brawl Pit Bulusan.

Though C.J and Danny won the match, it appeared that they were not exactly on the same page.  There appeared to be tension between the two, at times, but they got the victory.

Definitely, this fan, and hopefully those watching MWF shows will be excited about the upcoming year.  Definitely, there will be some surprises.

The second match will have El Phantasmo going up against the SETUP Thailand Openweight Champion, Jonathan Johnson.

Added to the show is a special tag team match.  Thommy Ardhi and Miles Karu from Malaysia will take on Grapplemax's Ban Sachak and Big Dave.  This ought to be a huge match for both teams and promotions.

Filipino Pro Wrestling Update #4

Two more pro wrestlers have been added for Filipino Pro Wrestling's show.  The event is FPW: Astig to be held at the PMC Spotlight Blackbox Theater on Sunday, February 11th at 2pm.

The "Dark Wolf" Matt Walters and "The Mad Doctor", FPW's Jan Evander will be in action at the show.

Would like to share a little about Matt Walters.  If this is the Matt Walters that I looked up on Cagematch, he's a freelance wrestler from Hunstanton Norfolk, England.  His resume is impressive as he has won four different British Championships, singles and tag team in his career.  He has wrestled in a couple of promotions such as Ultimate British Wrestling and Wrestle Force in the U.K.

This fan is impressed with "The Mad Doctor" Jan Evander as well.  Though, I didn't get a chance to see him last year at the last FPW: Astig event, I have seen him on video.  His amazing high flying maneuvers are definitely exciting for the fans who have seen him.

There will be another post or two on any event updates for the show.

With less than a week to go, tickets for the event are still available.  Please check the FPW - Filipino Pro Wrestling page on Facebook as well as the ticket2me website on ticket availability.  Thank you.

Hotshot Wilson, the Grapplemax Openweight Champion, will put the title on the line against Prabu in one of the matches.

According to history, the two wrestlers have met before in 2022.  Prabu pinned Hotshot in the Gold Standard Tournament.  Will there be a repeat or will Hotshot even the score?

In other singles matches, Shawn Phang of the tag team, Aussie Aussie Aussie, will take on upcoming wrestler, Larhvin one on one.

The other singles match will feature Joses of Grapplemax against Kazul of Malaysia Pro Wrestling.  For Kazul, it will be his debut at a Grapplemax show in Singapore.

Filipino Pro Wrestling Update #3

There have been a couple of mentions since the last Filipino Pro Wrestling post a few days ago.

First, "The Blessed One", Chino Guinto, will be in action at the upcoming FPW: Astig show.  His opponent has yet to be named.

Also, just announced will be a match between Duke Ortega against Freak Tisoy.

This fan knows some things about Chino Guinto and Duke Ortega since seeing then live and on video.

Filipino-Canadian wrestler, Freak Tisoy is one who is new to me, and perhaps to the FPW fans.

On Sunday, February 11th, we will know more about him.  There could perhaps be more matches signed for the upcoming show at the PMC Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Circuit Makati beginning at 2pm.

For more on tickets, and there are some still available, please check the ticket2me.net website and also, please check the FPW - Filipino Pro Wrestling page on Facebook.  Thank you.

Filipino Pro Wrestling Update #2

A third and fourth match has been made for Filipino Pro Wrestling's show, FPW: Astig.  The event will take place on Sunday, February 11th.  The venue
is the PMC Spotlight Blackbox Theater, Circuit Makati, beginning at 2pm.

The first one is a return tag team match that will feature Cali Nueva and Evan Carleaux against the Yolo Twins.

I've seen both teams and all four wrestlers last August at the final FPW show of the year.  The Yolo Twins have been a tag team for several years now and they are one great tag team.  Their chemistry is as good as any tag team I've seen.

However, Evan Carleaux and Cali Nueva can rise to the occasion from what was witnessed last August.  Though the Yolo Twins won the match, the fans could sense that their opposition might face them again sometime in 2024!  Well, that time is February 11th.

The other match that's been made is also a rematch from 2023.  Quatro, making his return to the ring will take on James "Idol" Martinez in a singles match.

I haven't seen Quatro live in the ring but seeing him on You Tube, he's very capable of holding the FPW Championship.  The matches he had in PWR were classics and I still watch them on occasion.

James "Idol" Martinez is still looking for his first win in FPW.  Seeing him last August when he faced Mharckie, this fan thought that he was going to triumph.  The match ended up a draw.  Could this be Martinez's time to come up with an upset victory?

Speaking of Mharckie, hopefully he's recovering from an accident late last year.  Hopefully, he will be back sometime in 2024.

Tickets, to my knowledge are still available.  Up until January 31st, tickets are still on a discounted rate.  Please check the ticket2me.net website on availability and/or check the FPW - Filipino Pro Wrestling page for more information.  Thank you.

Tara Let's Go!

Robin Sane in December 2022 prior to a match with CJ Serafin at the 2022 Noche Buena show.

Whenever this wrestling fan sees the title of this post, it reminds me of two things........the Manila Wrestling Federation and one of the founders of the promotion in Robin Sane.

When I first watched You Tube videos of the Manila Wrestling Federation back during the pandemic time, Robin was the first wrestler that I enjoyed watching.

The first time watching him was amazing.  He reminds me a lot of WWE's Rey Mysterio, one of the great daredeviling and high fliers.  Robin is not the tallest or biggest guy in MWF but he has a lot of heart and puts his body on the line in every match.

According to Cagematch, Robin was involved in the first MWF match known as Historycon 2016 when MWF and Singapore Pro Wrestling combined for a series of matches in Pasay City's World Trade Center.  According to the website, he faced one of his rivals, Fabio Makisig in a singles match and The Statement, Andruew Tang from SPW.

Up until 2018, there would be more rivals that he would face in Mr. Lucha, "Danger" Rex Lawin and Hong Kong's Ho Ho Lun.  Each guy was no small feat but more often than not, Robin would come up on the winning end.

In 2018, MWF would have three different shows to determine the two contenders who would wrestle for the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship.

At the 2018 Noche Buena show at the UP Bahay ng Alumni in Quezon City, Robin Sane defeated Fabio Makisig in one of the greatest, if not the greatest MWF match to date!

Over the next seven months, Robin successfully defended the title against the likes of "Danger" Rex Lawin, Frankie Thurteen, Morgan Vaughn and Moises Liwanag.

Then, there would be a controversy in the next defense of the title.  According to sources, Khayl Sison was supposed to be the number one contender for the title going into MWF Republika.  Instead, it was Ho Ho Lun according to then MWF Commissioner, Gus Queens.  Ho Ho Lun would win a controversial decision and would capture the title.  He would defend the title successfully on two occasions but the Covid-19 pandemic set in.

In 2022, Ho Ho Lun would relinquish the title.  Back to Robin Sane, it has been an uphill battle just to get a title shot.  He would get one in a TV show at Brawl Pit Bulusan against then, MWF Champion, Jake De Leon.

Then at the 2023 Road To Fate show, he received another opportunity against his rival, Fabio Makisig.  This happened because Robin Sane would win the 10-man scamble at the Lights, Kamera, Akyson show in June at the QC Memorial Circle.

This fan first met Robin at the 2022 Noche Buena show afterwards.  His match against CJ Serafin was one of the most hard fought matches I've seen in a long time.  I mentioned at the time that he is still capable in winning the MWF Pinoy Wrestling Championship.

Watching him one year later (last month), Robin looks better, more confident, quicker and stronger than I saw in 2022.

With Jake De Leon as the current champion, he now has the target on his back.  Robin is capable in beating people his size and larger.  In 2023, he did defeat Main Maxx who was the final competitor when Jake De Leon won the belt last month.  Main Maxx is a formidable opponent whether it is Jake, Rex Lawin or Robin.

There's no question that I can possibly see him with the MWF title sometime in 2024!
